If you are considering purchasing this swift and wonder set, I’m here to convince you to do yourself a favor and buy it. I am relatively new to knitting and have been hand-winding my hanks. Honestly, it was probably the most frustrating part of the knitting process. Not only has this set made the winding process faster/easier, it has also motivated me to wind ALL of the hanks I’ve been accumulating. Because winding yarn is now an enjoyable activity! And I had no idea how organized having cakes instead of hanks/skeins would made my knitting collection! Seeing my stash now, as Marie Kondo would say, “sparks joy”. It’s also incredibly easy to knit with! Also, if the cakes start to unravel while using them (I transport a lot of my projects), I don’t sweat it because I know how easy it will be to re-wind them!I am kind of picky with the quality of my knitting products (I almost exclusively use merino wool, Addi needles, glass stitch markers, etc) and was worried that, due to its price (I paid $38 for the set), these tools would be sub-par and potentially damage my (fairly expensive) yarn. Since I wasn’t sure I even needed a swift/winder (I did), I did not want to invest in a pricey model (I’d rather spend my money on yarn and needles). But these work brilliantly! I have to say, the first time I used the swift the yarn was feeding downward and caught on the metal rungs. However, I quickly learned that the height of the swift can be adjusted (basically everything on the thing can be adjusted), and I lowered the swift closer toward the table so that the yarn would feed straight into the winder, eliminating the unwanted angle. You can see in the last picture that the metal spoke of the swift is below the plane of the table top- this is where I adjusted the height to make it even with the winder.And as far as the winder goes, it is also brilliant! The max capacity is 100g of yarn, and it winds that amount perfectly (so long as the yarn is taught and the tension is consistent). When I use the swift with the winder, the proper amount of tension naturally occurs. But when I was re-winding skeins into the cakes for storage, I had to control the yarn feed with my hand (which was almost enjoyable because it went so fast!). Also, I need to note that the yarn on the winder in my pictures (deep pink) is actually 130g – and the winder handled it like a champ! I didn’t even realize until I saw how big the cake was (compared to the others) and checked the yarn label. Needless to say, I was impressed!So, in short, if you are considering this set I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying it. It will improve your knitting life for the better. And it’s a great deal. Such a small price to pay for knitting bliss!

Worth the money to start!
I’ve been crocheting for at least 3 years now and I’ve recently decided my new years resolution is to begin spinning and using higher quality yarns so a swift and yarn winder became a must-have. I bought this thinking I could use it to start and upgrade someday- and it’s perfect. Works great once you figure out how to adjust the clamps that attach it to your desk/working area. The winder works perfect on larger acrylic yarns as well as sock-weight merino wools. The swift is definitely not as nice as a wooden one would probably be, but its a great fit for me who needs to be able to put it away (love the plastic sheath it came with for storage!). The only issue I see with it is that the knob to tighten the clamp on my desk is a bit too close to the actual swift itself which can catch at times unless adjusted so that it doesn’t. Anyway, its a great first swift and winder set- especially the winder!

So much easier than rolling by hand. Lol.
I grabbed up all of my loose yarn and wound it the same night I received this tool. Love it!

These two are just great! I am using them all the time! If you are knitting using wool on skeins, I highly recommend these both, saving so much time for winding the yarn!
