Great yarn winder!
This window works really well. The tension attachment that it comes with helps keep the yarn tension consistent. It was really easy to set up and use. I also haven’t had any clicking issues while winding the yarn which was a problem I had with my old winder. I think this is a pretty good product for the price.

Worth the buy.
Simple and got the job done. I own way too much yarn and winding it into cakes has completely changed my storage and organization abilities. Winder lasted over a year – even given that I was rough on it sometimes. Didn’t start slipping until the last few days when the gears finally won’t catch on the inside. Going to see if it’s an easy fix to realign the gears but I’m thinking it may be time for a new one. I would move the guiding hook if I wanted to use it for really large cakes of bulky yarn. Definitely worth the cost.

Pretty Good
Works as intended. I like it. Can only make small cakes though, before the yarn starts slipping off and wrapping around the base. Likely best for skeins you have already used half of. For larger cakes you will need to look elsewhere.

Well worth the money.
I’m answering for my wife an avid crocheter. She says this yarn winder is the easiest she has ever used. It is easy to thread and winds a tight ball making it easy to draw the yarn from the ball. She has used more expensive models that don’t work as well. Very happy with it.

Great little cake maker
I love this little gadget! I just got it the other day and I’ve already made cakes from four skeins that were collapsing on themselves. To get a little extra tension during the wind, I place my hand lightly over the incoming yarn and let it run between my index and middle finger as it winds. I ended up with the perfect little center pull balls. I’m pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy winding yarn balls.

A knitters staple
i’ve purchased this yarn winder twice. I only purchased a second time, because I thought I was done with fiber arts and sold my first one. When I started up again, I had to get this because it is a staple in my process. It creates really uniform and neat yarn cakes that I can’t imagine not being able to make. I recommend to anyone who has a lot of yarn that they need to organize and keep tidy and free of tangles.

Not bad, but didn’t last long
Worked great for a while, but then just stopped working altogether.

It does it’s one job really well
My wife bought this for herself because she likes to crochet and this tool makes nice little workable balls out of your stines of yarn and it does it really well actually. The product is priced fairly reasonably as well for what it does. My only critique is that it does feel a little cheap to the touch but my wife has dropped it a few times and it hasn’t broken and like I said it does it’s one job well enough for the price in my opinion. if you have a crochet or in the family they’ll love this product. Included in this product review is a picture of what the ball of yarn looks like when completed

It broke within 3 months of light use. Crank moves, but the cone doesn’t move. Not worth it, just save up and get a better one

I finally decided to take the plunge and get a ball winder and swift and I’m so glad I did! It could take me close to an hour to wind a skein of sock yarn by hand by myself, slightly less if someone is holding the yarn for me, but with this ball winder I did 13 skeins of yarn in the same time it would have taken me to do one! They were made up of worsted weight as well as fingering weight yarn and the winder worked equally well for both types. Winding balls this way was life changing from doing it manually. I’m very happy to have finally made the transition. The ball winder came with instructions but I found it intuitive enough that I didn’t need to read them. The trick would be to leave yourself a long enough tail when you first anchor the yarn to the winder. I left too short a tail on one of my balls and the whole ball ending up popping off the top of the swift about 2/3 in, so I had to wind the rest by hand. Keeping an even speed when winding also means you will get more consistently sized balls. It was simple enough that my seven year old was able to turn the crank for a few skeins until she got bored. I would recommend protecting the surface of the table where you attach the clamp if you have a finished/varnished surface as I could see it marring the top. I used a piece of cardboard on top of the table and clamped the winder over top of it and it worked very well.
