Works extremely well, no complaints
This is an extremely well made yarn winder. I attach it to a craft table to use. The winder is a bit large but considering its use, that is to be expected. It was easy to put together and only requires a check of the screws to make sure they are snug. Personally I haven’t taken the unit apart because I have enough room to keep it attached to the table and leave it there. When using the winder it does make some noise as the cogs engage but I expect that and it’s not a problem for me. It is light weight and shouldn’t be a problem to move it from one place to another. I think this was worth what I paid for it and have no complaints. It works well and be prepared to gain some muscle strength in your arms if you wind a lot of yarn.

Good out of the box, great with a few tweaks
I used a smaller plastic winder for years, but this winder is faster, easier on my back and arms, and after I tweaked it, produces a much more uniform cake with no tangles when I pull the yarn out the center in the beginning.It actually worked OK out of the box, but it seemed to me it could work better, so I took the heavy wire arm out (by loosening 2 screws that hold it in place) and gave it a sharper bend so the lower part is more horizontal now. Then I adjusted the position of the arm until it wound a really nice cake.

Nifty Winder! – (but 15 oz.??))
This winder is easy to assemble and is ‘heavy’ = sturdy. The winder is quiet and smooth. I tested the unit using two different weights of yarn: a 100% Cotton 4 weight, 4-ply, 2 ounce / 57.6 g skein of Peaches and Creme yarn AND a 100% Polyester Super Bulky 6 weight, 9.9 ounce / 280 g skein of Bernat Forever Fleece yarn. The results: two nicely shaped cakes of yarn! The Cotton yarn cake wound easily and quickly. However, the Super Bulky yarn took a bit more finessing to wind the cake, to avoid tangles as the yarn wandered a bit more than the lighter weight yarn did. The winder JUST BARELY FIT the 9.9 ounce skein onto the spool. Thus, I question whether the machine can wind a larger skein than the one I tested. Perhaps I needed to hold a tighter tension, but I did not want to distort the yarn by stretching it. All in all – the winder is easy to use, feels sturdy enough to be durable, and it did the job for me. The winder seemed a bit pricey in comparison with others, but I’m pleased with the quality for the price.

Works well but damages what it is clamped onto
Bites into whatever surface you put it on. Very cumbersome, feels backward. Makes really firm solid cakes though, you could over tighten your yarn balls. Ultimately I am returning because it damaged my tabletop, if you have a metal or wood table you don’t care about damaging, this would work fine.

Finally a manual winder that actually works!! Simple, straight forward no frills yarn winder. It’s strange how something so simple can be such a hard thing to find done right. I’m super happy with this .

Metal base, but only holds 10 oz
Base is made out of metal and it works really well!! My only complaint is that the product says it’s 15 oz capacity online, but when I received it, the box says 10 oz capacity.
