Bowl and lid:Inner dimensions – 16.76cm diameter, 11.43cm depth.Good quality construction, joints are seamless and finish is smooth. The slot and holes where the yarn passes are adequate but the edges are a little rough; a light filing and sanding to round the edges and I think this will make a really nice piece.Crochet hooks (set of 8):13.72cm total length.Tapered metal hook guages range from 2.5mm to 6mm with 0.5mm increments.Bamboo handles are 9.75cm long, ovular and slightly flattened at the tail end.These are comfortable to use. The heads have a smooth finish, the 2.5mm has visible minor imperfections, but not enough to snag; they seem well set.My only critique is: I wish they were a tiny bit longer. I hold my hooks low and I have large hands so I find my fingers wanting for a little bit more.Overall:Solid construction, pretty good finish, good get for the price. The yarn port edges could use a light touchup; as is, they don’t snag but can cause some light (I won’t even call it fraying) fuzzying. With that minor modification, I think these are pieces I will enjoy getting good use out of for years.

A Quality Craft Addition
This is an attractive and well presented yarn bowl for crochet and knitting. It’s made of pine wood and lacquer finished in a deep chestnut brown color. Overall the bowl looks great. I ran my fingers over the surface and there were a few, very slight, rough edges but nothing serious and I think these will wear smooth in time.I like that this kit has a matching lid to keep the contents clean and clear of contaminants.Also included are a set of different sized crochet hooks. These have flat bamboo handles with rounded edges and feel comfortable in the hand. That’s important when you might be using them for a while, especially for older people and the aches and pains that come along with that. They may not be the last word in quality but they are a sure step up from plastic handled hooks in my opinion.The vortex yarn slot is smooth and well contoured. In use, everything worked well. The very central eye doesn’t seem to have much lacquer coating but I have some wood reviving polish (basically a stained oil) and I think a simple application of that on a cotton bud will be all that’s needed to complete the picture.Overall this is a really nice craft accessory that’s almost as pleasant just to look at as it is to use. For me the price is about right, judging by the competition, especially including the lid and hooks. With care it should last a long time.Recommended!

Very nice wooden yarn bowl and bamboo handled hooks
This is a nice, functional and attractive yarn bowl with bonus crochet hooks.The bowl itself is made of wood (I’m not sure what kind), stained in a warm medium brown and gloss varnished. The carved spiral to hold the working end of the yarn looks good, although I have not yet actually used the bowl so I can’t be sure if the edges have any tiny rough spots to grab the yarn. There is a lid which is a cool additional feature to keep the yarn clean and dust free, and to help keep pets from playing with it.There are a few rough spots in the finish on the outside of the bowl, but these wouldn’t affect performance. Overall, it is attractive enough to keep out in one’s living room, seems durable enough for its purpose, and can hold a large ball of yarn. I would say it’s worth the price, which is less than what you would pay for the same item (with no lid) at a store like Michael’s.I’m very pleased with the included crochet hooks too. They are standard metal hooks with smooth, lightweight, bamboo handles. Bamboo is great for crocheters with arthritis or easily fatigued hands because it warms quickly in the hand, is lightweight, and is chunkier than the usual slim metal handle on a regular hook. These have a flattened oval profile and feel comfortable and natural in the hand. The hooks are identified with millimeter sizes rather than letters, but it would be easy enough to mark them if you’re used to reaching for a lettered size.I haven’t used the hooks yet, except to test the metal’s smoothness and the feel of the hook depth, but I am looking forward to making something with them to see how they stack up to popular brands. I’ve used Clover hooks for about 12 years and recently noticed the soft plastic handles are getting a tacky feel (as happens when soft plastics break down). Maybe these will be good enough to replace them and I can say goodbye to plastic for good.This is a good set. If you can afford to pay a local artisan for a handmade yarn bowl, then do that, but if you need an inexpensive option, this is it.
