How to make a neat, tight & lovely yarn cake?
When using, control yarn tightness with one hand and wind the crank with the other—don’t go too fast.
What if the yarn slips when making a yarn cake?
Maintain a steady (not too fast) speed and manually control yarn tightness to reduce slippage. If it slips, adjust the yarn in different directions promptly, turn the crank slowly while pulling the yarn slightly tighter until it stops slipping.
What yarns work with this winder?
Works best with worsted weight yarn (size 4 or less), but performs less effectively with blanket yarn (size 6-7).

Excellent little machine!
After years of winding my yarn on a nostapine I finally broke down and bought this. I love it so much. It is small and portable and clamps perfectly to the top of a little side table. I spent hours yesterday rewinding all of my sloppy balls of yarn. Everything looks so fabulous. Extremely easy to use, although you will probably have to tape the wire arm to your table surface to keep it from moving. But that’s no big deal.When I’m using a wrapped yarn it does tend to “shudder” and throw the yarn off when it gets to the ‘shoulders’ of the yarn cake. But once I discovered that it is just that type of yarn, I could keep an eye on it and work around it. It’s no big deal.I haven’t used it long enough to know how it’ll hold up, but I literally wound yarn for 6 hours yesterday continually and it worked perfectly. Worth every penny!I also like that it is small and when I’m done with it I can just put it in the basket with my yarn cakes and it’s out of the way.

Great Little Beginner Spinner
I started crocheting about 3 weeks ago, so I am a beginner and this spinner works really well for me. It is; however, not big enough to spin a large ball of yarn.

Just what I needed for my crochet projects!
Great winder and allows you to wind a good amount of yarn. I started with a 380 yd skein and was able to wind about 3/4 of it. It winds smoothly but you have to keep some tension on the yarn so that it doesn’t slip….I just hold it between my fingers. It’s very sturdy and attaches to my table or desk securly. It has helped me to complete my crochet progects a lot faster.

Best Yarn Winder I Have Tried So Far
I have tried several of these yarn winders, and while this one is not perfect, it is easily the best so far!! Just to be transparent I used this with 4 weight yarn. The main problem that I have with these is that the yarn turns into a messy knot instead of being wound into a ball. This did happen a couple of times while using this, but nowhere near as bad as other models. Because the tangle was minimal, it was easy for me to correct the issue before it became a major problem. So functionally, it works well, and as an added bonus, you can wind the yarn quickly thanks to the minimal tangling. The winder itself seems durable. I have only used it a few times but there was no slipping or twisting of the winder where it was clamped to the table so the design is good. Overall, this is a great value for the money! It is nice to be able to wind my yarn so it is easier to store and use for my projects.

Functions but Low Capacity
Winder was easy to put together and seems easy to use. The price is very reaosonable. Functionally it is limited though. If portability is a major factor or you’re winding small amounts of yard for colorwork or small projects this winder is fine, but I would not make this my main winder.The winder works fine, but the plate seems too small for even smaller weight standard skeins. I tested it with a 225yd skein of dk/light worsted yarn and 2/3 through the skein the yarn started winding around the plate instead of the cake. Adjusting the height of the skein helped but no amount of adjustment fully prevented the problem. When the cake was finally finished it sat right at the edge of the plate. True worsted yarn would probably exceed the plate and forget a full skein of aran or above unless the yardage is low.

I Rewound My ENTIRE Yarn Stash!
I have been crocheting for quite a few years and love trying new ways to help me organize my very large yarn stash. This yarn winder helped me turn an unorganized blob of yarn to nice neat cakes, and I am obsessed. It has simple but straightforward instructions, it’s as easy to put together as it is to take apart for storage. It folds away neatly, or you can leave it as a permanent fixture on your desk like me. Despite the ease of assembly/disassembly, it’s very sturdy and high quality. The plastic is thick and durable and surprised me when it withstood winding many skeins of blanket yarn into cakes without any resistance, nor skipped any teeth despite the heavier load. It worked hard and wound 70+ cakes of yarn in sizes ranging from 2–6 without any issue for 5 straight hours. The crank mechanism is so light and smooth it caused no strain on my arm. I use it regularly and it still works just as great, if not better after many uses. I personally say this is a must-have for anyone who loves center pull cakes, has limited space to store yarn (I use plastic storage drawers and can stack 2–3 cakes depending on the yarn), or anyone who works with yarn in general. It is an absolutely great and reliable product that I am absolutely obsessed with.

I ordered the Speensun Yarn Winder because I love to crochet and I am tired of rolling my yarn into balls, which get tangled, and you can’t stack them.I’ve always wanted one, but talked myself out of them, so I went ahead and ordered it and was so thrilled when it arrived. I was concerned that it would be a flop, because many times when you are all excited for something, it turn out to not be up to the hype.Not so with the Speensun Yarn Winder. It was easy to assemble. Easy to attach to the table. Easy to attach the yarn and boom, I had a yarn cake. I just wish there were directions on how to remove the cake from the winder, without part of it unwinding.Ease of assembly: The only thing you need to put on is the barrel that the cake builds upon.Ease of installation: you open the wingnut, push the clamp onto the edge of your workspace, turn the wingnut to tighten it.Noise level: It is hand crank, and almost no noise.Functionality: It works like a dream!Durability: Made of hard plastic. Works as Expected
This is a great and easy to use ballwinder. I had one before but got rid of it because I stopped doing most fiber arts when after a few years got back into crochet and my youngest daughter started to crochet with me. This came at a great time because one of her skeins of yarn looked like it had been attacked by a cat and we needed to wind it. Took up so time at all to detangle (the longest part) and then wind it which she thought was fun.I set it up on my desk and secured it down and got to winding. Very easy to use and doesnt require instructions whatsoever.
