    Excellent little machine!
Overall awesome. Haven’t had it long enough to know if it’s gonna give up the ghost, but so far, so good. Was able to accomplish exactly what I wanted it to. I bought it primarily to sew reinforced plastic to a zipper, to create a zippered opening for a greenhouse. The plastic covering was already installed and the zipper was supposed to just stick on, but the glue didn’t hold up well enough and needed to be reinforced. Couldn’t take it down to sew it, so we bought this little tool. Worked beautifully! Some of the loops didn’t pick up on the back side, but I think it’s because the zipper’s adhesive might have been gumming up the machine a bit.

Poor design, tough to use, breaks easily
This machine is very poorly designed. First off, just loading the batteries was a pain – the compartment is barely big enough, and getting the lid to slide and close was next to impossible. Next, the pressure plate is a pain to lift – and you almost need three hands to do that without at the same time depressing the sewing arm and stabbing yourself with the needle. If you can get past that, threading the machine is not too terrible, as long as you have decent fine motor skills and very good vision. Fine – that’s pretty standard for any sewing machine. However, positioning the fabric to sew is tricky, and you really have to practice to even get a marginally straight line. There’s no reverse on this machine, so you have to manually tie off the stitch and hope it holds. Lastly, my machine stopped actually stitching after a couple of successful seams. It does the stitching motion, but the thread does not catch, so it’s basically just putting holes in the fabric. And after half an hour of messing with the tiny tension knob, nothing changed. So I was unable to actually use this for anything. It pisses me off that Singer attached its name to this cheap paperweight. I would imagine that someone out there can design a handheld machine that actually works and is not such a pain to use. I’d pay $40-$50 for something like that. This was total waste of $23 plus tax.

    Good product with one drawback.
Love not having to hand stitch and great for those quick patch jobs. The only issue I have with it is the foot that holds the material down. To lift it, the logical thing would be to lift it with one or two fingers while using the sew arm to provide pressure. However, if you put pressure on the sew arm, it just lowers. I’ve not figured out an easy way to lift the pressure foot.

    Fabulously handy
I thought this might be a waste of money at first but it was really inexpensive so I decided to give it a try. I use it for custom fitting my plastic tarps I use to protect my outside machinery and my travel trailer. Yes, it is hard to fit the tarp under the needle and it is slow but It actually works great to snug up plastic tarps so they don’t flap, blow off, or rip on those windy days, or shift and expose the machinery on rainy days. It’s lightweight and maneuvers easily. Doesn’t work on canvas tarps tho. I know it won’t last for long because I’m using it on some pretty harsh jobs for something built for clothing or curtains but it’s too handy and it’s cheap to replace so I probably will get another one if this one fails. It’s saved me a lot of money so far by not having to replace lost or damaged tarps. Basically I’m using it the same way an industrial hand-held bag stitcher works but I’m saving myself hundreds of dollars not getting one of those and they are heavy and hard to control. I think I’ll just stick with my little Singer hand-held stitcher.Update: I do have an issue with folded over fabric because it’s too thick and the stitcher won’t sew it but with hand pressure you can force it. Batteries don’t last long and it could use a power adapter. If they only made this hand stitcher a little bigger and with a power cord it would have been much better. I’m still using the originally purchased stitcher after making 4 fitted plastic tarps for large tools I leave outside all year. That was a lot of work for a little hand stitcher. It was not easy but it was better than hand sewing the tarps. I think because of it’s small size I will take one star away and just give it a 4 star review. I still like it.
