The blocking mats come with 9 interlocking foam mats, I case of individual stick pins and another case with small and large holding pins. I put pictures for reference. The foam mats fit together nicely and the pins go in easy. The holes stay after you take the pins out, so over time, these will have to be replaced with heavy use.There is a grid pattern on one side and plain white on the other. If you match up the numbers the grid will line up, but if you don’t care, then the mats can still interlock in any way.They will probably last a while if you turn them over once one side gets marked up from all the pin holes.These are not self healing foam mats. However, they are thick, so again, turning them over will give a little more life to them.The storage case is a thin clear plastic, no pockets, but it does hold everything. All of the mats and both cases of pins.The quality is okay, but not sure how long it will last under heavy use. I only block certain things, so I may update after a bigger project that needs blocking is completed. It’s for a gift and I can’t post pictures until after it’s been delivered!

Perfect gift for your yarn maven
If you have a yarn maven in your life – someone who knits or crochets – let me do you a favor and let you in on the secret: they need this!!! Let’s start with what blocking mats are. When you are finished with a knit or crochet item, especially one you intend to wear and wash, the best practice is to block it before wearing. This means that you lightly wet (or wash) the item and lightly (or firmly) stretch it to the desired size. Then, you pin it in place so that it dries in the size/shape that you prefer. This is especially helpful with textured stitches and stretchy yarns (read: wool) so that you relax the fibers and allow your item to lie flat or in the shape you have made it, instead of the shape it wanted to be when you finished stitching. As a knitter & crocheter of 20 years+, I resisted blocking my knits for a long time. What can I say, I’m impatient! Recently we had some leftover exercise mats and I got into a better habit, but I longed for the mats from well-known brands with the right pins and the ease that comes with using something designed for your purpose. Here it is, at last!First, the case being clear with a zipper and handles, and room to hold the blocking pins and any other accessories securely together with the mats is genius. How many times do we lose the pieces to something because we had to figure out how to store it once it arrived??? Brilliant! The clear also means that you’re protecting against dust or animals, and you can clearly see what is – and isn’t – in the case. So perfect.Second, the mats themselves have a grid pattern and are numbered. Even my non-crafty husband was impressed with grid lines as it was immediately obvious to him that it would help me accurately and quickly line up my finished garments so that they are straight and even – something I was lacking on my makeshift setup. I also love that the individual tiles are small enough to be manipulated into the shape needed for the item – something longer or a funny shape can still be accommodated with the interlocking tiles since you can connect them any way you like. However, I will also say it was quite satisfying to make a block of 4 that had all the grid lines aligned, as you see in my pictures. Since there are 9 numbered tiles, I surmised that you would arrange them like a tic tac toe board – 1,2,3 on the top, 4,5,6 in the middle and 7,8,9 on the bottom to max out your blocking area. Therefore I used blocks 1,2,4 and 5 to make an aligned grid of 4.Third, the pins that accompany this set are just lovely. The box is a sturdy plastic with a good solid lid so things are secure inside. I love how efficiently the pins themselves stack in the box, and that there are a multitude of them. The two sizes allow for ultimate customized control of the stretch and the needs of the particular garment. The pins themselves are thin enough to trust on my knits and they attach firmly to the mats. There are T-pins included as well if you have something particularly small or fiddly that needs some extra attention!Finally, the extra bonus was the 8 colors of stitch markers also in the package. They aren’t really related to blocking, but someone who is going to the trouble of blocking their knits will squeal with glee as I did. You can never have too many stitch markers!! Having an array of colors means you can also use them for different purposes while knitting, which is also super, super helpful. Since they open/close, they can also be used for crochet! This is the bonus that will send your yarn maven over the edge to know that they are truly appreciated as the one true yarnist in your household. You may even move yourself to the top of the handmade present list.

Great blocking kit. Several panels of nice thick foam that you can lay out to what ever size you need. Plenty of single pens and a case of knitting blocking pens, which are my personal favorites. They even came in a nice storage case.All fits tidy in a thick plastic zippered bag with handles so easy to grab and easy to store.Came with a thing of stitch markers, which I found a bit odd since they aren’t used for blocking that I am aware of. they are also super thin, brittle and cheap so they break easily. But I do kinda love the case they came in so will get rid of these and put my better quality stitch markers in it instead 😉
