HONGUT Sound Machine: The one machine to rule them all
The BLUF (bottom line up front) is that the HONGUT White Noise Sound Machine is the one sound machine to rule them all. Its wide range of features sets it apart from all others. It offers Bluetooth capability that connects easily with other devices, strong stereo speakers that play audio from those devices, and two sets of lights to cut through the darkness that may bind you.It has an internal “playlist” of seventy unique sounds arranged across seven categories, so you never have to start at the first sound and cycle through the entire playlist.The HONGUT machine offers two independent light systems which as Galadriel tells Frodo as she gives him a Phial of Light, “May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.” One light system works when the base unit is closed and the other works when the top of the base unit is open.As Ron Popiel might say, “But wait, there’s more.” You can select a timer for thirty, sixty, or one hundred twenty minutes. A carry strap and a USB cord come with the unit, though you will need to provide your own charging brick for use in some situations.There are too many features to cover without turning this review into something that is tl;dr (too long; did not read). The interface is intuitive. The case feels solid and robust. The sound range spans from a soft tone reminiscent of Gandalf’s quietest whispers to a moth to a volume nearly as commanding as Boromir blowing the Horn of Gondor.The overall value is excellent. It carries the highest price in my collection of nine sound machines, yet the performance and flexibility make that price fair.The HONGUT machine works well for both the very young and the young at heart. It plays “Hush Little Baby” from its internal playlist just as easily as it plays Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings through its Bluetooth connection.It fits into a variety of environments. It feels appropriate in an office, beside the bed of a grownup, in a nursery, or even as an external speaker in my garage. It is a little heavier than ideal for travel, though that is how I am using mine.This is a superior product that delivers far more than basic sound. As Stan Lee used to say, “Nuff said.”
