I have crocheted for years, tried knitting a few years ago, but gave up (I’d bought some bamboo needles). I really wanted to try again, so I liked that this set has all the sizes to choose from. I chose a medium-thicker size (don’t recall the size right now), but I think because I could choose and experiment with the size that felt most comfortable for me. I was finally able to make a couple of rows for the first time ever!These needles feel very solid. They definitely are of good quality. The sizes are clearly notated on the ends and they feel good in your hands. I wonder if I should have just gotten steel needles instead of the bamboo needles I’d bought so many years ago. This is a great set and I’d totally recommend it for anyone getting into the hobby.

Nice Beginner Set
I’ve been knitting for about 16 years and I’ve tried so many sets of needles in that time. I’ve used metal, bamboo, wood… circular, straight, dpn… fixed and interchangeable. I mean, wow! There’s a lot of options out there. How do you choose, right? Then, you have to start looking at needle size. What size do I need for my project? It can just really get overwhelming.I really like this kit for a beginner because it has a lovely assortment of sizes, two different styles of needles, and some accessories that can be helpful. Additionally, for the price point ($19.99 when I requested it), it’s a great option for an experienced knitter like me to get an assortment of sizes on hand. It’s really helpful to have a variety of sizes and materials around when you are gauging a project and these fit that bill.The cables on the circular needles (my first choice for knitting) are ideal. They are coated nicely, so as you move your project back and forth across them, you shouldn’t have any snagging or catching. They appear to be attached firmly and smoothly, which is a priority for me. Additionally, where the needles meet the cables, there is a small bend akin to what the higher end “speed” needles offer. This was a very nice touch and, to be honest, I would be thrilled with this set simply because of the circular needles. I will say that they are only 25″ cables, so they aren’t ideal for magic loop projects, but at this price point I don’t expect the world.Now… as for the rest of the kit… the rest of the kit is the reason why I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. Yes, it’s nice that they included yarn. Except it’s a pretty small amount and the only thing it’s going to do for you is give you something to practice basic stitches on. The needle tips… there are two, in different sizes. So, you have one needle tip for small needles and one for large. Ummmm… you knit with two needles and when you stop during a project on circular needles, you need two tips to keep the project from falling off both ends. Not helpful. There’s a few stitch markers and far more plastic yarn needles than you could possibly need. A small tape measure is included, and a needle gauge – which I have a little bit of an issue with.Why do I mind the needle gauge? Because I shouldn’t need it. The product description says the needles are clearly labeled. Well, yes, in mm. But they aren’t labeled at all with American needle sizes. So, when you are used to searching for a needle by American size, this is going to be really annoying and a point of reference to help you figure it out is going to be a help. I wouldn’t list this as an issue, except that the product description on the website shows sizes both ways and that misled me to think the actual product would do the same.The final thing included that I haven’t mentioned yet are the straight needles. It’s difficult for me to give you a great assessment because straights are my least favorite to knit with. They are lightweight. The ends appear to be attached firmly. And the points seem to be appropriate. Again, the only complaint I can really make is that they are only labeled in mm and not American sizing as well.

Pleasantly surprised!
This set was much nicer than I had expected! I have many needle sets and I like to have an extra set before I attend a fiber retreat so I ordered this to insure I’d have all the sizes no matter what might come up. I didn’t expect the quality to be this nice. I prefer metal needles and these are nicely made, not sharp, just pointed enough to pass easily back and forth through the yarn. The yarn that came with it was a nice little addition and allows you to work on a project immediately. I would give this as a gift to a new knitter! The needle sizer, markers, measure tape and plastic yarn needles are fine for a beginner but they aren’t where the quality lies in this set. With both straight needles and circular, this is a great deal for the price!
