When using, control yarn tightness with one hand and wind the crank with the other—don’t go too fast.
What if the yarn slips when making a yarn cake?
Maintain a steady (not too fast) speed and manually control yarn tightness to reduce slippage. If it slips, adjust the yarn in different directions promptly, turn the crank slowly while pulling the yarn slightly tighter until it stops slipping.

Low cost, but really well made
It works really well for being a low cost yarn winder! I’ve spun a lot of my yarn with it and haven’t run into many issues. I know it’s recommended to only use Grade 4 yarn and under, but I have spun as high as Grade 6 without issues, just needing to separate the yarn more.It’s really quick and I can wind my yarn without having to pay too much attention. I didn’t think it would be durable enough, but it really is super sturdy. Overall plain looking, but if it gets the job done effectively, that doesn’t matter at all.I don’t have a ton of space to store my crochet stuff and my yarn has taken over most of it. This winder is super compact and small, but packs a punch with effectiveness.Overall, if you are looking for a starter winder that’s low cost, but isn’t gonna break easily, this would be the go to.

Works great! First time I have used a yarn winder and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to assemble and use. Highly recommend this product. Follow the simple instructions and in minutes you will have a perfectly wound yarn cake!

Easy, practical and even fun to use
Wonderful little product.Feels cheap at 1st but once mounted on a table it is easy to setup and get going. You do need to provide a bit of tension yourself as you wind the yard but the whole process goes so quickly. Only minor gripes is I wish the center tube was slightly taller and the v grooves slightly deeper. I feel this tool will pay for itself quickly in convenience.

I absolutely love this product, it’s so fun to use and it makes such pretty yarn cakes and when using the yarn after winding, I’m able to crochet with ease. And easily store the yarn! It’s also really fast. Love this product and 100% recommend!

Meh, clockwise only, and frustrating
Must turn clockwise! The struggle with this winder is that it is best if put on the right side of a desk, so that you can hold the yarn with your left hand and turn the handle clockwise with the right hand. However, any unintentional tugging or pulling will make the arm that directs the yarn pop back inward. So I thought, to keep that director arm in place, wind with left and hold with right, simple right? Well, the yarn kept slipping out and wouldn’t catch to rotate when I went clockwise, so I went counterclockwise. Then the middle part that the yarn was sitting on kept popping off! It seems fairly durable since the middle kept flying off and knocking into things without becoming damaged, but it seems the design might need some adjusting? I only tested it on worsened weight yarn, so nothing chunky and only 3oz worth. But still, it just didn’t seem to want to cooperate the way I had hoped. And perhaps this is nit picky, but the middle part that the yarn it wound around seems unnecessarily large. Why is it an inch in diameter? Why not a quarter or half inch so that more yarn could be spooled? So while it works, it was rather frustrating to use.

I feel that the hand crank is much better than the automatic winders because you have total control with these.This particular one is a really good quality so I even purchased another one to give as a gift.The tension you put on your yarn with the opposite hand that you spin the crank with is very important and with a little practice you should get the hang of what is too much or not enough.If your winder starts making a clicking noise, it’s either because you’re holding the yard too tight or because you held it too loose and it got tangled on the bottom.It’s a very easy fix, you just need to pull the yarn off the post and start over using the same end you started with.If you’re inexperienced, please just have a little patience and keep practicing, you’ll eventually get it and love your winder.

Super happy with the quality of this for the price! Works very well and while I understand why people say to be careful I definitely have gone full speed with the winding on a few occassions with no problems. I’ve owned it for almost two weeks and wound over 60 balls of yarn with no problems either. I found it can do around 100 gram 8ply balls, and it can handle yarns as thick as a velvet yarn. I recommend this purchase, I’m pleased with it.

This works so fast and required a lot less effort than winding a yarn ball by hand. The machine spins so smoothly and you barely have to put strength into spinning the handle, it’s very easy to operate. There is a limit to how big the yarn ball can be though, so that’s the downside compared to hand winding.
