Broken – Maybe Poor Design?
Unfortunately this bowl arrived broken. The packaging was intact so it’s possible it was broke before shipment. The place it broke is the weakest point in the wood, so the design has a flaw. I could glue it but it’s the place the yarn puts the most tension on the opening of the bowl that it wood easily break again.

Brand: SHIDOW”This has to be one of my favorite recent items that I have requested for review. I am a long-time knitter and crocheter, and while I already had 2 yarn bowls, I am always watching for more.Every yarn bowl has it’s own little quirks and some seem to be better suited to certain yarn types. This particular yarn bowl is great for smaller cakes or yarn, I found that it is perfect for keeping at work in my break time area, where I like to crochet with cotton or acrylic worsted weight yarns, that I have wound off into small-ish cakes at home, using my ball winder. I usually carry the project back and forth daily, but the projects I take to work are soothing, repetitive, using easy to manage yarns. I’m going for de-stressing during my break times at work.This wooden yarn bowl does slightly grip the yarn due to the wood texture. I also found that since it is a smaller sized yarn bowl, it is helpful to turn the cakes sideways. It does add a bit of tension to the yarn coming from the skein. So this helps keep things neat and tidy, but not all needleworkers like having extra tension. (That is why I have a ceramic yarn bowl, and also a larger wooden yarn bowl with rounded, smooth edges)If you are looking to give an impressive, gorgeous and luxurious gift to an experienced knitter, this is probably too generic and quickly manufactured to really fit that purpose. However, If you are looking for a fairly basic, great value, small yarn bowl, this is an excellent choice. It will keep your small ball or cake in place and clean, instead of rolling around on the floor or falling out of your lap.
