Above Average Product Design, Value and Performance
I have both the Streamlight brand and the Bison LED lanterns. The Streamlight is manufactured as near-military grade equipment — very rugged. Whereas the Bison is overall good in its finish and exterior durability, it does have a few cheap feeling features such as the bottom bail or folding hook. Not to overplay the bottom hook feature, but it is small, light plastic and not easy to fish upright with “average guy” fingers. The Streamlight has metal bails top and bottom with spring loaded keepers, and finger access features built into the lantern case. That might be important on a cold night.Installing batteries into the Bison is easy, provided you read the directions and learn that the removable base has a small slot that must be engaged into a plastic tab molded onto the battery compartment.Where the Bison really excels is on light output. This baby is really bright on the high setting. I don’t have the means to quantitatively measure lumens, but qualitatively I do believe the manufacturer’s 500 lumen claim. As well, understand that 500 lumens is a little less than what a 50W bulb outputs so the Bison is not going to light up your house, but it will provide good emergency local lighting, or say for use within a tent. The light “temperature” I’m guessing is above 4000K — definitely into the blue rather than soft yellowish.At the Amazon price point the Bison is a good buy, and with its above average quality it should provide reliable service with just minimal care. My bottom hook nit-pic is not enough to whack off a star.

Fantasticittle but bright light, perfect for emergencies
We recently lost power for three days. This little light was a lifesaver. It’s super bright, sturdy and weighted at the base. We used it for three night and it seems to be very energy efficient. We loved it so much, we just wished we had two more. So, I ended up ordering one more like this and one of the 750 lumens lights. 100% recommended!

Compact, good quality.
Nice compact lantern. 2 brightness levels plus flasher. Has a small blinking green light to announce its location and remind you the batteries are inserted. Hard to get the battery compartment closed, but you’ll get the hang of it. Bought it to keep with my hurricane Dorian supplies, even tho I don’t live in Alabama. Good value, 2 ways to hang/carry it, but with sturdy base for tabletop.

Great lantern to suit most needs!
First off, I must say this is a great lantern. The front green LED flashes every five seconds to enable you to locate the lantern while in a darkened room or outside. It has a foldablefds hook on the top to enable you to hang it where needed. The front black switch controls the functions of the lantern. One press, medium light. Second press gives you a very bright light, while the third press causes the lantern to flash. Not as many choices as other lanterns, but enough choices for most of us. One positive note is that the lantern uses fthree standard D cell batteries. I’ve noticed other reviewers mention they had trouble inserting batteries. I took a screwdriver and lightly pressed on the tabs to push them down slightly enabling me to insert the D batteries with no problem.I honestly don’t think anyone will be disappointed with this lantern as the brightness settings are adequate for just about any situation.

The Blazin 500 is a great choice.
This Blazin 500 lumen lantern is really nice. I obtained 3 different lantern to try them out and determine which one I’d like to have in my emergency stash. The Blazin 500 turned out to be my choice. Mind you, I simply did simple testing by turning off all the lights and trying each one in turn and I liked the brightness and the coverage best of them all. The others were good, I just like this one better. It provides a very clear light and the 360 coverage was also better. The others sometimes have kind of a blindspot within the range. I’m not sure how to describe it. The Blazin 500 did not have this, just clear light the full 360 from hand height down to the ground and far reaching (I didn’t measure how far, just far enough for me to be happy). Very easy to install batteries. Very nice carry handle. Easy push-button. And rather rugged overall. I’m happy.

Lid Ddoes not close after installing the batteries !
It is impossible to close the lid after installing the batteries . Frustrating!!!!

Just what we needed
This is the second time we have purchased this lantern. The light is bright and so easy to carry around by the handle. Used in during power outage caused by the recent hurricane.
