I bought so much churro wood driving through New Mexico, so I needed something like this for all my skeins. This, paired with a wood umbrella I also bought on Amazon, help to make beautiful yarn “cakes”!

I used to pay for my local yarn shop to wind yarn. For the longest time, they were happy to wind skeins or hanks you’d bought from them into cakes – they even have a largely automatic machine to do this. More recently, they’ve started charging for that service and it’s not cheap, particularly after you’ve bought yarn from them. This didn’t sit well with me but I felt kind of stuck.Enter this yarn winder.Given the low cost, I didn’t have high hopes but I’ve been won over: it’s well made, not flimsy, the instructions are clear, and it’s super easy to use. Despite the warnings in the instructions about maintaining consistent tension, it was rather easy to do and resulted in a neat, tidy cake of yarn.Fantastic tool – I’m happy to recommend this one!

The mechanism is extremely poor quality. Winding the yarn is a pain because the mechanism inside constantly slips under the slightest load. I don’t recommend it.

This is exactly what I needed! I hate dealing with loose yarn balls that you get at the store, especially if you have to store them. It’s just not tidy, and I’m enough of a mess as it is. I don’t need help! This is so easy to use, and greatly reduces the footprint of the yarn, while keeping it nice and structured. It pulls off the machine so easy, and keeps its shape, without a problem. Depending on the yarn, sometimes it’s frustrating to roll it on because of tangles, but that’s not on the machine! Once it’s on there, it makes project work so much easier. It’s easy to set up and easy to take down and fits back in the box for storage.
